I’ve been at work in the studio and really pleased with how the results are turning out. I’m super excited about the 2011 collections which will feature lots of mixed metals, unique textures and a minimalistic style.
I’m off on holiday, and now that I don’t have to drive to work in the snow every day I can actually enjoy it’s beauty for a few weeks. To celebrate I’m giving away a FREE pair of my rustic snowflake earrings.
To win all you have to do is visit my VALERIE TYLER DESIGNS main shop and tell me which piece you would like to see more of this year or the OUTLET shop and tell me which piece you think is the best deal. Normally I like to feature other items besides my own in the Monday Modern Nature series, but this week I wanted to share my bird series with you as I am so delighted that the level of bird songs from park is greatly increasing. I think more and more of the delightful critters are returning, and I can’t wait for Spring when I can finally throw open the windows. Usually all Spring and Summer we’re woken up to the sounds of birds frolicking in the tree right outside our window and I love it!
Today’s spotlight was another discovery on flickr and I immediately invited her to join the Modern Nature Design photo group. Jewelera creates very dreamy jewelry including anything from upcycled materials and organza butterflies, but I was completely bowled over by her use of cotton. I love it when an artist manages to use organic materials in a new, unique way so Jewelera was certainly a delight to discover.

It’s no surprise to Theresa, Silvermade Studios that I absolutely LOVE her work. Since she’s a fellow local Clevelander I get the pleasure of seeing her at Cleveland Handmade events, and always visit her and drool over her work.
Since I make jewelry, it’s rare that I let myself buy jewelry, but over the holidays I let myself have a treat from Silvermade Studios, and bought on of her leather cuffs. I love jewelry that is a little bit edgy like that.
Here’s a different style of her leather cuff that would be perfect for your Valentine soon
Soulmate Cuff, $48.00
I also LOVE these earthy Hollow Pendants that she creates.
Round Leaf Pendant, $49
I think I may have to let myself have another luxury soon with her leafy necklaces!
I’ve decided to add yet another weekly feature. I apologize for the cheesy alliterative titles for the weeklies, but they make me laugh. On Thursdays I would like to start highlighting gorgeous items that fit a particular theme. I’ve found that objects often are even more lovely when you look at them in the context of other similar objects. Collections can be stunning. This week the theme is birch bark, which at first thought may seem rustic, but in actuality can be so fresh and clean looking.
If you don’t happen to see your favorite activity, by all means leave it in the comments…I’d love to see it.
Here’s a few items perfect for this snowy day. Today I’m all the Friday favorites are from Cleveland Handmade members.

I’ve recently started a group on Flickr called Modern Nature Design to help me bring you a brand new feature. It’s no surprise I am absolutely in love with nature-inspired, modern design. I strive to keep my home clean and simple, with elements of nature or minimal zen style. In my own jewelry I attempt to combine simple lines with organic shapes.
To kick off the series I simply had to invite fellow jewelry designer Susan of STonZ, to add this necklace to the collection of photos. She is a master at taking natural elements such as beach glass and of course stones and giving them such a sleek, modern look. You can find more of SToNZ’ lovely creations in her shop and follow some of her stories on her blog.
I often choose items to feature for this series from my Modern Nature Design group on Flickr. To see more items from members, or if you think your work is perfect for the group visit us at the Flickr Modern Nature Design Group Page.
